Packard was an early American automotive company founded in 1899. It was a premier brand of luxury cars that thrived during the 1920s through 1940s, although production between 1942-45 was focused on war production due to World War II.
After the war, Packard was increasingly seen as an old-fashioned brand as other brands like Cadillac excelled in appealing to the younger demographic. Packard merged with Studebaker in 1954 to form Studebaker-Packard, with both companies remaining as marquees for a few more years. The last Packard cars were manufactured in 1958, while Studebaker-Packard discontinued the brand the next year.
