In 1955, Matsushita Electric introduced the Panasonic brand of speakers. The name is a combination of "pan-", from the Ancient Greek πᾰν- "all"; and "sonic", establishing their products' intended use for the burgeoning stereo-listening market front and center. The name was used on products to be exported to the United States market, as "National" had already been trademarked.

1965–1971[]
Panasonic donned the National N in 1965, and omitted the space from its name. From this point onward, both brands would be given similar logo treatments.
1965–1968[]
The company began producing television sets for the U.S. market under the Panasonic brand name in 1965. It was later used in Europe on radios and televisions under the National Panasonic name until it dropped the National name in all of its products in favor of Panasonic.
