Prior to 1997, Panera Bread operated as the Saint Louis Bread Co., and still uses the name for locations in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

The wordmark was smoothed out and outlines were added to the lady's hair. The oval around the word "BREAD" is also gone.
This is still used as a secondary logo as of June 2022, as it still appears on bags and cup containers. This is also still used at a handful of locations.
