In 1989, Gulf+Western was relaunched as Paramount Communications Inc., after selling off its non-motion picture assets (excluding Simon & Schuster) between the early to mid-1980s. In 1994, Paramount Communications Inc. was purchased by Viacom (original iteration), with its name being fully discontinued on-screen by the following year.

In 2022, successor-in-interest ViacomCBS rebranded itself as Paramount Global, marking the second time that Paramount Pictures and its parent company shared the same name.
