After Penn Fruit's 1975 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, Pantry Pride owner Food Fair Stores, Inc. began talks in June 1976 to potentially acquire Penn Fruit, and reached an agreement in late September to acquire its remaining 17 locations.
