In 1991, the "cat and dog" motif was simplified and updated, introducing the more familiar iteration of it. Additionally, the mascots' had their colors swapped and gained names for the first time: Red Ruff and Blue Mews. In 1992, the pet store chain introduced the iconic tagline, "Where the pets go."[1]

As of 2022, this is still used at some stores.

On August 16, 2011, the logo was updated again, this time retiring the 1989 wordmark and now being rendered in all lowercase, in addition to a more modernized, simplified "cat and dog" motif. Additionally, the tagline "Where the pets go." was updated by adding the word "healthy" between "the" and "pets", thus rendering the new tagline as "Where the healthy pets go." (this was done to promote "wellness", an initiative that has been going on with the chain a few years before this logo's introduction). Since then, this logo has replaced the previous one on existing stores, including those that were renovated.

Most stores still use this logo as of 2022, as well as Petco Park.

“The brand refresh celebrates significant business accomplishments over the last five years and matches the healthier, more contemporary aspects of the brand today. The refreshed logo includes all-lowercase letters and a more refined, lifelike look for longtime Petco dog and cat icons Red Ruff and Blue Mews.”

On October 13, 2020, the Petco logo was redesigned yet again, removing Red Ruff and Blue Mews from the logo after 29 years (they are still used independently, albeit without their original colors). The wordmark has been modified from the previous logo, and now appears in a darker shade of blue. Additionally, a completely new tagline, "The Health + Wellness Co.", was introduced, discontinuing the iconic "Where the (healthy) pets go." tagline after 28 years.[3]
