The logo was based on the custom lettering used on 1977's Animals. Pentagram's Harry Pearce with the aid of Aubrey Powell, the surviving member of the design duo Hipgnosis (who, along with Storm Thorgerson, were involved in creating several of the band's album covers), standardized the logo with the creation of a complete stencil alphabet, intended as a logo for the label and band merchandise. The new font/logo exists in both solid and outline versions, just like it appeared on vinyl copies of Animals.[1][2]
