In 1969, the Steelers implemented their helmet logo (which was first used in 1962, albeit with the world Steel instead of the full team name shown here, which would be used starting the next year) as their team logo. The logo, known as the Steelmark, was originated by United States Steel (based in Pittsburgh) and is now a trademark of the American Iron and Steel Institute.
2002–present[]
In 2002, the Steelers slightly modified their logo, adding a black border around the circle, emboldening the typeface and tweaking the color shades of the astroids (the yellow/red/blue hypocycloid with four cusps in the logo).
