This opening with the "BSD" logo was only used in some Pixar shorts from the 1980's. It also made a small cameo in the CGI animated short Geri's Game and in a scene from Toy Story 2.

When Pixar was established as an animation studio in 1994, the now-iconic animated intro with the company's mascot Luxo Jr., was introduced. When the logo fades to black, Luxo Jr. would still have it's light on before turning it off. It first appeared in Toy Story in 1995, but as a closing sequence. It would be started to be used at the beginning of Pixar films with A Bug's Life in 1998. This version was last used in Ratatouille in 2007.

In 2019, due to the change of Pixar's technology, the opening was reanimated and the CGI was updated by giving Luxo Jr. a remodeled base and an LED lamp. This version debuted in Toy Story 4 and has been used since then.

The reanimated version of the 1995 logo makes its way to 3D with Onward, and reappeared on Lightyear. This logo didn't appear on Soul, Luca and Turning Red though, because the films were released on Disney+.
