Its competitors are the VTM-branded channels of DPG Media, and the public broadcaster VRT.

VIJFtv rebranded in 2012 to VIJF, the same year as sister channel VIER.
On 28 January 2021, VIER, VIJF and ZES were renamed to Play4, Play5 and Play6, respectively, in advance of the new women’s channel Play7 launching in April 2021. The rebrand consolidates all television channels owned by Telenet (the owner of SBS Belgium), which also owned Play Sports and Play More premium channels.
This move is similar to the renaming of competitors Q2, Vitaya and Caz to VTM 2, VTM 3 and VTM 4, respectively, on 31 August 2020.
