1972–2010[]
Plus was founded in 1972. It expanded to Cyprus in 1973 (left in 2008), the United States in 1979 (left in 1982), the Czech Republic and Hungary in 1992 (left in 2008), Spain in 1994 (left in 2007), Poland in 1995 (left in 2007), Austria and Portugal in 2003 (left in 2010 and 2007 respectively), Romania in 2005 (left in 2010), Greece in 2006 (left in 2008) and Bulgaria in 2009 (left in 2010).
In January 2009, Plus officially merged into the Netto Marken-Discount chain, with various other stores being converted to Penny Markt. Internationally, stores were rebranded into Lidl.
By 2010, all stores had been rebranded, discontinuing the Plus name.
