The figure in the logo is based on the 1922 sculpture, "Speed" by Harriet Whitney Frishmuth. PolyGram as a whole would be sold to Seagram's in 1998, who primarily wanted their musical assets. Seagram's would sell PolyGram's pre-1996 library to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in January 1999[1], minus the ITC Entertainment Group library, which was sold to Carlton Communications that same year. PolyGram's post-1996 and television library, as well as other operations associated with the company, would be dissolved into Universal Pictures, also owned by Seagram's at the time.
