On September 1, 1986 during the Corazon Aquino administration, PCO was started as Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) and the OPS name was used until the first month of administration of Benigno Aquino III, Corazon Aquino's son, on July 30, 2010.

On the last day of President Rodrigo Duterte administration on June 30, 2022 and the first six months of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as president from June 30 to December 29, 2022, Presidential Communications Operations Office was reverted to its original name Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) through Executive Order (EO) No. 2 dated June 30 of the said year. The OPS name briefly returned after 11 years, before changing into Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on December 29, 2022 where the 2016 Presidential Communications Operations Office logo is again used but the word "OFFICE" was added.

On December 29, 2022, as President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. signed Executive Order No. 11, Office of the Press Secretary was renamed as Presidential Communications Office (PCO) which is responsible for crafting, formulating, developing, enhancing, and coordinating the messaging system of the Executive Branch and the Office of the President. The PCO logo again used the 2016 Presidential Communications Operations Office logo, but added the word "OFFICE".
