TV Prima is the oldest private TV channel in the Czech Republic and the second-most-watched, after TV Nova. It is the flagship channel of FTV Prima, a Czech commercial broadcaster that was owned by the Swedish Modern Times Group until 2017.

Prima was founded in 1992 as FTV PremiƩra and started broadcasting on 20 April 1993. It was renamed to PremiƩra TV in 1994 and then to Prima televize in 1997, and finally to Prima in 2005.

On 26 November 1992, FTV PremiƩra, the first private Czech TV channel, started test transmissions after receiving a broadcasting licence. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 1 January 1993, the channel was officially launched on 20 April.

The monopoly of FTV PremiƩra was broken in 1994 when TV Nova was launched. Around the same time, FTV PremiƩra was renamed to PremiƩra TV and introduced a new logo.

A new logo and look were introduced on 4 April 2005, featuring the classic Kabel font. The slogan was ā€¦a jste doma (ā€¦and youā€™re home).

Prima introduced its current logo on 14 January 2008, along with a new look created by the French design agency Dream On. The logo moved from the top leftā€”the standard for Czech and Slovak TV channelsā€”to the top right corner, but returned to the top left within a few months.[4]

Prima was renamed to Prima Family on 1 January 2012, with no change in the programming.

Prima Family was renamed back to Prima on 1 August 2013.

Prima received a major makeover on 27 August 2017. While the logo remained the same, it launched a new graphics package that abandoned the longstanding Helvetica Neue font in favour of Hurme Geometric Sans No. 3. The channelā€™s news division, Prima ZprĆ”vy, was rebranded simultaneously. The rebrand was commissioned by the Czech creative agency Department, which has worked with FTV Prima on several occasions. From May 3, 2020, after the launch of CNN Prima News on-screen bug moved to right top corner (only on newscasts).
