Qantas' nickname of the "Flying Kangaroo" is derived from this logo. Note the shape of the Australian continent in the southern hemisphere of the globe and the British Isles in the Northern. This is a reference to the "Kangaroo Route" between Sydney and London.
1968–1984[]
This version of the logo was partially revived as a detail beneath the cockpit window on the 2016 livery, as an homage to Qantas' heritage.
1984–2007[]
2007–2016[]
Hulsbosch tweaked Qantas' logo in July 2007 as preparation for the arrival of the Airbus A380. It however first flew on one of their fleet's Boeing 767-300ERs. Both the kangaroo and font changed.
2016–present[]
On 27 October 2016, Qantas' logo was redesigned by their lead designer Marc Newson and Sydney-based Houston Group. The triangular container was reformed to a shape of a modern aircraft tailfin. The roo was also drastically remodelled, being smoothed out and stripped of details such as the arms and has gradient areas to emulate shadows. The wordmark had also been simplified.
