Launched:  May 5, 2014

RTL Nieuws underwent a major rebrand on 5 May 2014 at 19:30, introducing a new modern set design, graphics package and musical score. They were designed by Mark Porter Associates and Smörgåsbord Studio, with the theme music composed by Universal Everything, and the signature jingle by Martijn Schimmer. This came nine months after the rebrand of RTL 4 on 26 August 2013.

The main graphical elements are long lines cutting across the screen and bending at right angles to form the RTL wordmark. These lines are used as a frame to show content. This is against a backdrop of a skyline, with different variations for daytime and nighttime news. A custom version of the popular Graphik font by Commercial Type was designed for use in the on-air identity.

This RTL wordmark was introduced by RTL Nieuws in 2014, then extended to RTL Nederland’s corporate identity in 2016 (also designed by Mark Porter and Smörgåsbord). By 2017, all the RTL Nederland channels and properties featured this logo (except the video-on-demand service RTL XL). However, it is not used by the RTL Group outside of the Netherlands.
