RTL Super is a German free-to-air TV channel owned by RTL Deutschland (and formerly co-owned by The Walt Disney Company Germany). It was launched in 1995 as a family and kids-oriented channel, but later shifted its primetime programming to other genres, notably crime. However, until 8:15pm, it airs the Toggo and Toggolino blocks for children and preschoolers, respectively (in addition to the dedicated Toggo Plus channel).
Super RTL
1995–1997
The family channel Super RTL was launched on April 28, 1995. Its first identity was designed by Novocom in Los Angeles. Its slogan at launch was Für die ganze Familie (For the Whole Family).
1997–2008
Super RTL introduced a new logo on August 30, 1997.[1]
2008–2013
On January 7, 2008, Super RTL introduced a new look and a new logo that contained the words Super and RTL in one line for the first time. The on-air graphics package used Supralux Prime, a custom-made font. The channel's new slogan, Schön, dich zu sehen (Nice to See You), was introduced with this set. This slogan would be used until 2019.
Super RTL underwent a rebranding for its primetime segment on October 14, 2013, while retaining both the Schön, dich zu sehen (Nice to See You) slogan and the essential structure of the 2008 logo. The new graphics were designed by FEEDMEE Design in Cologne, with Canada Type's font, Gibson, being served as the channel's on-screen font.
Its children’s block, Toggo, underwent its own rebrand a few months later, on January 4, 2014, with its own all-new logo.
On August 14, 2019, Super RTL introduced a new logo and set of idents and bumpers to distinguish its primetime programming from its children’s blocks, Toggo and Toggolino. The slogan, Schön, dich zu sehen (Nice to See You), which debuted in 2008, was ditched-up entirely. Like with the 2013 set, the graphics were designed by FEEDMEE Design in Cologne, with both Flama and the Turbinado Pro, a script font, being served as the channel's on-screen fonts.
RTL Super
2023–present
Four years later, on August 14, 2023, Super RTL Primetime changed its name to RTL Super. The rebranding happened at 5:00 a.m. CET for its feeds in Austria and Switzerland, during the nightly fireplace, while the German feed would not follow suit until a few hours later that day, at 8:09 p.m. CET.[2]
The Super RTL name will be retained for the service that operates Toggo, Toggolino and RTL Super overall.
