RTP1 was the first public Portuguese television broadcaster and was founded in 1957.

Despite being rebranded as RTP1 on December 25, 1968 to coincide with the launch of RTP2 occupying two hours of their schedule, the logo remained unchanged and in order to distinguish the two channels and though RTP1 was the legal name, the channel had to be identified as I Programa until October 16th 1978.

The print version of this logo uses the font Clarendon Bold, instead of using the custom font. The shade of blue used on this logo was exactly the same as the previous one. A darker version was used for the presentation of the following day's programming, which was done before the emission closure.
