On June 22, 2021, Rovio had announced that they were starting to work on new classic-style Angry Birds games, alongside remaking the original games (except for Angry Birds Rio, and Angry Birds Star Wars I and II due to licensing issues with The Walt Disney Company), with the original Angry Birds being one of the first.
On March 15, 2022, the logo for the new Angry Birds rerelease was unveiled, with the game later releasing on March 31, 2022, but later on, Rovio mentioned that they were removing it from the Google Play Store on February 23, 2023.

In February 2023, Rovio announced that Rovio Classics: Angry Birds would be unlisted from the Google Play store and renamed to Red’s First Flight on the App Store. According to Rovio, the delistings and renames were "due to the game's impact on our wider games portfolio".
