Redbox shut down in July 2024 after its parent company, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (CSSE), converted its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing to Chapter 7 liquidation. The company was unable to develop a repayment plan for its creditors, so it sold its remaining assets and laid off its 1,000 employees. All 24,000 of Redbox's rental kiosks were also closed.
