Regional Express (or REX) was the product of two Rural New South Wales airlines; Hazelton Airlines and Kendell Airlines; both of whom were subsidiaries of Ansett Australia prior to their insolvency. The two airlines were acquired by a consortium of Australian and Singaporean private investors and merged into a single airline.
