Union Premier Food Stores, Inc. was established in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by brothers Samuel and George Friedland in 1933. There were 9 Food Fair locations by 1935.

1963-1981[]
Food Fair opened the first Pantry Pride store in 1964, which would later become the bulk of the company's operations. It acquired the remaining 16 Penn Fruit stores in 1976, and the Hills Supermarkets chain in 1977. In 1978, the newly-renamed Food Fair, Inc. filed for bankruptcy, with J.M. Fields being shuttered and a large fraction of their grocery stores sold. Their grocery chains would be consolidated into the Pantry Pride name, with the last Food Fair-branded stores, located in Virginia, being converted into Pantry Pride locations in 1979.

Food Fair Inc. emerged from bankruptcy on July 6, 1981 under the new name Pantry Pride Stores, Inc., now headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In June 1985, investor Ronald Perelman and his group MacAndrews & Forbes acquired the firm, selling off its grocery businesses to Gristedes chairman John Catsimatidis's investment firm Red Apple Group later that year.

Late in 1985, Perelman then went after the original Revlon Inc., using the Pantry Pride firm as a vehicle to acquire other companies, in a $1.83 billion hostile takeover consummated by the resignation of Revlon's chairman in November 1985. Pantry Pride, Inc. took the name Revlon Group, Inc. on April 7, 1986, and went private. Later that year, it acquired Playtex's beauty products (Max Factor, Almay, etc.) Max Factor would be sold to P&G, and Clean & Clear to Johnson & Johnson in 1991.

Revlon Group became Revlon, Inc. upon its IPO on February 28, 1996.
2003-present[]
Today it serves as the parent company of Revlon Consumer Products LLC, producer of all Revlon-owned products.
2016-present[]
After its purchase of Elizabeth Arden, Revlon added its logo to the company's corporate logo, while retaining "Revlon" as the corporate brand for the combined company.
