In January 1977, owner Dart Industries sold the Rexall brand to the Rosshall Corporation. All company-owned stores were sold, though many former franchises continue to carry the Rexall name today. The Rexall name was acquired by Sundown in 1989. The merged Sundown Rexall company was purchased by Royal Numico in 2000.
2003-2005[]
Royal Numico sold Rexall Sundown to NBTY, Inc. in 2003. Rexall-branded vitamin products were phased out around 2005.

Dollar General licensed the Rexall name from McKesson, owner of the Canadian Rexall chain, for personal care and first aid products. These would hit the shelves in August 2009.
