The first Rice Epicurean Market location opened in a converted Rice store in February 1988. This new format was catered more to imported/specialty food items, similarly to The Fresh Market. In 1998, it was decided that half of the chain's stores would be sold and the rest would be converted into this upscale format.
2015-2022[]

After years of dwindling locations and financial strain, the last Rice Epicurean store, located in Houston, closed its doors on July 29, 2022.
