Not to be confused with the unrelated discount store chain based in Massachusetts.
Rich's was a department store retail chain, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, that operated in the southern U.S. from 1867 until 2005, when the nameplate was eliminated and replaced by Macy's. Many of the former Rich's stores today form the core of Macy's Central, an Atlanta-based division of Macy's, Inc., which formerly operated as Federated Retail Holdings, Inc.
1867-2003[]
In 1997, the chain merged with Lazarus and Goldsmith's but retained its name, becoming the so-called "RLG Division".
2003-2005[]
In 2003, Federated merged Rich's into its Macy's chain. The combined entity was known as "Rich's-Macy's" until March 6, 2005, when it was converted to Macy's all together.
