Rite Aid introduced a new "deep discount" chain of drug stores known as Rite Price (often branded as Rite Price Discount Pharmacy) in 1992, with the opening of several (converted Rite Aid) stores in the state of Ohio.[1][2] This concept eventually spread to other states such as Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland, with a total of around 15 Rite Price stores in operation, with most (if not all) of these stores being converted from regular Rite Aid locations (which were previously branded Thrif D, also its predecessor name).[3] These stores were meant to compete with other deep discount drug store chains such as Phar-Mor or The Rx Place. Unlike Rite Price, those chains operated in buildings that were typically much larger than the average drug store (similar to Drug Fair). Therefore, Rite Price had a disadvantage when compared to its competitors. Beginning in 1994, newspaper ads for the chain would begin to be co-branded with Drug Palace, a similar concept launched by Rite Aid years prior.[4] The chain was only in operation for a few years before quietly being dissolved sometime in 1995, with all stores most likely being converted back into regular Rite Aid locations.
