The Volkswagen Group acquired many of the Rolls-Royce trademarks from Vickers in 1998, although the name and "RR" symbol was retained by the aerospace manufacturer. Ultimately, BMW would gain the rights to the Rolls-Royce name and logo for automobiles, and VW would sell off the Spirit of Ecstasy and grille design to BMW, whilst retaining Bentley, which Rolls-Royce had merged with in 1931.
