Rowntree began as a stand-alone producer of confectionery foods like Kit Kat, Aero, and Smarties.

Rowntree Mackintosh Ltd[]

1969-1988[]

Rowntree merged with their confectionery competitor John Mackintosh and Co in 1969, to become Rowntree Mackintosh. A brand new logo was created for the overall umbrella company, but the logo for the confectionery division retained the logo and font from the pre-merger Rowntree logo.

Nestlé bought Rowntree's in 1988 and all the brand's chocolate products were bought out by said company. However, the Rowntree's brand continued to be used to market Nestlé's jelly sweet brands in the UK as still is to this day. With this takeover, Rowntree's also got a new logo and packaging.
