SBS Food began transmission on 17 November 2015 on digital channel 33, replacing a simulcast of SBS' main channel as Food Network Australia. The channel's logo is near-identical to the American Food Network logo, but flanked with SBS' Mercator emblem to identify the network's affiliation the public broadcaster.
On 17 November 2018, SBS rebranded SBS Food Network as SBS Food. This came as SBS' three-year contract with Scripps Networks Interactive (since acquired by its rival Discovery, Inc.) expired. They began using the new SBS logo from the start, adopting it over 4 months before the rest of SBS. In Australia, the Food Network contract was quickly renegotiated by Seven West Media, who launched their new channel on 1 December.
