SBS On Demand VR is an experimental video-on-demand application which showcases 360º video, the first TV catch-up service in the world to do so. The application boasts that it's not just for 360º video, but also displays in 3D through the use of Google Cardboard. Despite being announced and released on April 1st 2016, the application is genuine and not an April Fools Day joke as most would expect.

From release, the application had three videos on offer: a specially-made promo for 'Inside Heston's World' and two from the 2016 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (one of the parade highlights and the other from the side of SBS' Eurovision float. SBS plans to create more 360º video content in the future, including specialised content for the second season of 'Untold Australia'.
