SEAT (Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo) was founded in Barcelona on 9 May 1950, by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI) for the manufacture of Fiat automobiles under license.[1]

On September 4th, 2023, Volkswagen Group announced that SEAT car production may be fully replaced by Cupra, but even so, the original name will be maintained for another automotive role.
