G-Technology was founded in 2004.
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies bought G-Technology in 2008. HGST in turn was bought by Western Digital in 2012, and G-Technology became a brand of Western Digital until its rebranding in 2021.
After the division was rebranded to SanDisk Professional, the G-logo will be continued to be used on SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE line of prosumer external hard disk drives and solid state drives.

In 2021, G-Technology was rebranded to SanDisk Professional and introduced its new products.
