In 2005, SanDisk entered the MP3 player market with the Sansa brand to compete with the iPod.
In 2012, SanDisk started to drop the Sansa logo on its products in favor of the main SanDisk branding starting with the SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip until its full discontinuation of that brand in 2014 in favor of SanDisk Clip. MP3 players under the SanDisk Clip line were still sold by Western Digital as of 2023.
