This logo first appeared on the helmets in 1962 (albeit using silver ones; the gold helmets would not come until 1964), but would not become the primary logo until 1968; it has been used by the team since, with various tweaks to the design since.
1989–1995[]
The black outline in the "SF" version was first used starting in 1989.
1996–2009[]
For 1996, a gold outline was added while the red was changed to a slightly darker shade.
2009–present[]
For 2009, the 49ers reverted to a look closer to their glory years of the 1980s, including uniforms that were a slightly updated version while the shade of red reverted to scarlet.
