After they went public, SunDisk changed their name to SanDisk in 1995 to avoid confusion with Sun Microsystems. The logomark and the logotype were retained from the previous SunDisk logo.
In 2016, Western Digital bought SanDisk to expand their lineup to SSD drives and it became a Western Digital-owned brand for SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards. However, in March 2024, Western Digital announced that its SSD business will be split off by the second half of 2024, reversing its merger with SanDisk. In October 2024, SanDisk's website was relaunched, carrying all of its SSD products including those Western Digital-branded SSD products.

On December 17, 2024, SanDisk was rebranded to Sandisk and changed its logo after 17 years, ahead of its plan to become the standalone company that handles flash technology in early 2025 following the split from Western Digital.
“This is the inception point that Sandisk builds off, and it is the cornerstone of our ability to innovate. By starting with the pixel, we could visually communicate the scalability and infinite potential of data – the core of what Sandisk stands for. We were very intentional in creating a mark that embodies the spirit of this thinking.”
— Joel Davis, vice president of creative at SanDisk[1]
