Sanpaolo IMI was founded from the merger of Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino and Istituto Mobiliare Italiano in 1998.
2002–2007[]

In 2002, the bank absorbed Cardine Banca. To reflect this, Sanpaolo IMI changed its logo. On January 1, 2007, Intesa merged with Banca Intesa to form Intesa Sanpaolo.
