York Seven[]
1973–1978[]
The Japanese subsidiary of 7-Eleven was formed in November 1973, due to a licensing agreement between The Southland Corporation (the owners of the 7-Eleven brand at the time) and Ito-Yokado, granting the latter company the rights to open convenience stores in Japan under the 7-Eleven name.
The first store opened in May 1974 under the name York Seven, becoming the first completely franchised convenience store chain in the country.
