On March 9, 2023, Silvergate Bank was liquidated amid a cryptocurrency crash and resulting bank failure. Its collapse is the first of three major bank failures in the United States in March 2023, the other banks being Silicon Valley Bank on March 10 and Signature Bank on March 12. The collapse of Silvergate Bank is part of the larger 2023 banking crisis, which includes the failure of the two previously-mentioned banks and First Republic Bank which failed on May 1, 2023.
