Singapore Airlines, abbreviated as SIA, is the flag carrier of the city-state of Singapore and a member of the Star Alliance since 2000. Together with its regional full-service subsidiary SilkAir and low-cost arm Scoot, it operates a worldwide network to five continents. It is one of the most-awarded airlines in the world.
After Malaysia-Singapore Airlines ceased operations in 1972 due to political disagreements between the two nations, Malaysian Airline System (now Malaysia Airlines) and Singapore Airlines were formed.
Singapore Airlines has used the same logo and livery since 1987. The livery was slightly modified in 2005 as the tail logo and titles were enlarged, to coincide with the introduction of the Airbus A380 into the fleet, of which SIA was the worldwide launch customer.
