Siri is the voice-input, voice-response artificial intelligence personal assistant software originally developed by SRI International for iOS devices in the mid-2000s and later for macOS computers. Siri was acquired by Apple in April 2010 under the direction of Steve Jobs, former CEO and co-founder of Apple.

2010–2011[]

Siri (iOS) 2010

Siri is a voice command application by SRI International and eventually Apple. It was released on August 9, 2011, for iPhone users. This icon was used in first pre-release of iOS 5, in December 2010.

2011–2013[]

The microphone glows purple depending on the volume a person is speaking at.

2013–2015[]

The icon is the previous version, but flattened down. It was still seen in Assistive Touch in iOS 9, 10, and 11.0.x, until iOS 11.1.

2015–2016[]

The circle from the previous icon was removed. A purple-blue gradient background replaced the grey background. This icon (without the background) continued to appear on the primary Siri screen in iOS 10 and iOS 11.

2016–2017[]

The microphone was removed and was replaced with audio waves, similar to the ones found when using Siri since iOS 9. Not only that, but the background was now a dark and space-like background only illuminated by the audio waves. This icon appeared on iOS 11.0.x.

2017–2021[]

Siri (iOS) 2017

The audio waves now formed a circle, similar to the ones on iOS 11.1. This icon has been seen since iOS 11.1 and was seen until iOS 15.

2021–2024[]

Siri (iOS) 2021

In iOS 15, the Siri icon was been changed. The purple color used in iOS 11–14 and macOS High Sierra to Big Sur was changed to red. The green and blue colors remains the same to iOS 17.

2024–present[]

Siri iOS 2024

This icon was introduced during WWDC 2024, and is being used in iOS and iPadOS 18.1 beta, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta for the Apple Intelligence Siri.
