Sky Channel launched on the AUSSAT A1 Satellite in 1985. It was originally available to TAB outlets, sporting venues and clubs.
On 5 September 1998, the channel was rebranded Sky Racing and expanded to direct-to-home subscription TV via Foxtel on channel 526.
In October 2009, Sky Channel operations was renamed Sky Racing. On 30 March 2010 Sky Racing 2 began transmission on Foxtel channel 527. This was followed on 4 May by Sky Racing World on channel 528. On 21 March 2015, Sky Racing World would be rebranded Sky Thoroughbred Central with a HD simulcast launched on 1 April 2016.
