The first North West regional service which launched on September 1st 1994 as "JFM" in an attempt to avoid using the 'Jazz' word. Like its London counterpart, the service at this point was owned by Golden Rose Communications.

Jazz FM in the North West was relaunched as Smooth FM on March 1st 2004 and was now under the control of GMG Radio.
