1993–1994 (pre-release)[]

This was the early logo sharing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 base design, that was used for placeholder box art and early promotional material, most notably McDonald's Happy Meal promotion in 1994.[1] Title screen logo in the game's prototype dated November 3, 1993, also shares the color palette similar to the pre-release logo.[2]

Initially, the game received an unique logo for European, Australian and South African markets.

Used exclusively in Sonic Classic Collection, SEGA Studios Australia employee Brooke Luder recreated the game logo. At the time, Sega no longer had the original editable logos to be used for the compilation.[4]

Sonic 3 & Knuckles[]

By using trademarked 'Lock-On Technology' feature, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 can be inserted into a top slot adapter of Sonic & Knuckles cartridge, resulting a combined game with all zones of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles as any of the three available characters. The title screen alters accordingly.

Originally used for Sega Mega Drive Classic Collection Volume 3.[5] Sega delisted Steam release of the game in May 20th, 2022 ahead of Sonic Origins's release, marking this version of the game officially unavailable.[6]
