Sony Marathi is a Marathi-language general entertainment channel launched by Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) in 2018. It competes with Zee Marathi, Star Pravah, Colors Marathi and Zee Yuva, as well as the free-to-air Fakt Marathi. It is SPN’s second regional-language channel, after Sony Aath, a Bengali movie channel.
2018–present
The SD version was launched on 19 August 2018. The graphics package is influenced by traditional Maharashtrian motifs used on saris.
A similar concept was implemented by Star Pravah in its rebrand in December 2019.
The HD version may be launched in 2020–21 after it received a broadcasting licence in July 2019. It is a de facto replacement of Sony Ten Golf HD, which closed down on 31 December 2018 along with SPN’s other HD-only channels, Sony Le Plex HD and Sony Rox HD.
