Busways was formed to take over Tyne and Wear P.T.E.'s bus services in October 1986, the brands consisted of NEWCASTLE, CITY, SOUTH SHIELDS and SUNDERLAND in different colours.
1989-1994[]
Stagecoach Busways[]
1994-1995[]
After Stagecoach's purchase of Busways in July 1994 "AN EMPLOYEE OWNED COMPANY" was replaced with "PART OF THE STAGECOACH GROUP" shortly thereafter.
1995-2002[]
With the introduction of the 'stripes' livery, the original Busways livery remained on some buses until 1998.

With the introduction of Stagecoach's new logo in 2020, regional names and fleetnames has been phased out.
