On November 16, 2021, it was announced that Crypto.com had secured the new naming rights (which was worth $700 million), making it the first time in this venue's history that the naming sponsor has changed. The new name will take effect during this year's NBA Christmas game on December 25, 2021 (with the Los Angeles Lakers facing off against the Brooklyn Nets). A renovation is expected to be finished by June of 2022, when the outer signage will be updated to reflect the new name.[1][2] The name change has been criticized by many for deviating from the "landmark" status that the soon-to-be-former name has evoked.[3]
