The Star Alliance was founded in 1997 as the world's first airline alliance. The five pyramids in the logo symbolise the five founding airlines: Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International and United Airlines. Competitors Oneworld and SkyTeam were launched in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
As of 2019, the alliance holds 27 full members from every inhabited continent.
This star logo was created by Pentagram, with one segment for each of the five founding airlines.
