Star Bharat is a Hindi general entertainment channel in India that complements Star’s flagship channel, Star Plus, along with Star Utsav. It was launched in 2004 as Star One and rebranded in 2011 as Life OK, before adopting its current name in 2017. Along with Star Plus, it competes with Zee TV, Sony TV, Colors and Sony Sab.
The word Bharat means India in several Indian languages, and is also used in the names of other channels such as Republic Bharat and TV9 Bharatvarsh.
Star One
2004–2011 (India), 2004–2012 (US and UK)
Star One was launched on 1 November 2004, a few months after Star Utsav, and positioned as a youth-centric channel for urban audiences. The logo for the American feed did not have the STAR mark above the word ‘one’.
Life OK
2011–2017 (India), 2012–2017 (US and UK)
Star One was renamed to Life OK on 18 December 2011. The new brand was created by Venturethree, who had already rebranded Star Plus in 2010. It was one of two channels to use Star's OK brand, created for urban-focused content aimed at a progressive Indian audience; the other was Movies OK, which was launched in 2012. In response, rival network Zee created the & brand in 2013, starting with &pictures, a Hindi movie channel like Movies OK.
Star Bharat
2017–present
Life OK was renamed to Star Bharat on 28 August 2017, thus leaving Movies OK to be the only Star channel using the OK brand until 1 February 2020, when it was renamed to Star Gold 2.
Initially Star Bharat was available on the government-owned DD Free Dish, but after its removal from the platform on 1 March 2019 along with some other pay-TV channels, it has suffered from abysmally low ratings, especially compared to Star Plus, the most popular Hindi pay-TV channel.
