Star Kiran is an Odia-language general entertainment channel in India and Disney Star’s first regional-language channel outside the big six languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi). Initially the channel was to be named Star Kirano, but the spelling was changed a few weeks before launch. Its HD version was the first-ever Odia-language HD channel. Its competitors include Tarang, Zee Sarthak, Colors Odia and Sidharth TV.
Originally scheduled to be launched on 24 January 2022,[1] this and other changes were indefinitely postponed, due to a delay in the TRAI’s new tariff rules.[2] In April 2022, Disney Star announced the launch of the channel on 1 June 2022,[3] along with the Marathi movie channel Pravah Picture on 15 May. On 19 May, the channel’s launch day was officially announced as 6 June, and the spelling was changed from Star Kirano to Star Kiran.[4][5]
