In November 2017 Star India decided to shut down Channel V and launch a dedicated Kannada-language sports channel, Star Sports 1 Kannada, in its place, though it was unable to acquire a broadcasting licence until May 2018.[1]
However, in August 2018, Star decided not to have a dedicated Kannada sports channel for the time being. Instead, it launched Star Sports 3 on 15 September 2018, replacing Channel V. Nevertheless, Star launched Star Sports 1 Kannada separately on 29 December 2018.
